Spanish to English

I provide Spanish to English translation services to clients around the globe. As with document translations in general, my areas of specialization include general, legal, financial, business, and technical translation, but I accept translations on other topics as well. I also work with international organizations and offer certified translations from Spanish into English.

Spanish Background

I had for many years longed to learn Spanish, and when I arrived in Montreal to begin my bachelor’s degree I was delighted to start the Spanish program at McGill University. I chose Hispanic Languages as one of my minors and completed McGill’s Spanish learning courses, together with a class on Hispanic civilization for a cultural and historic view. I was also able to take a course on early Spanish literature, which was taught and conducted fully in Spanish. My French background (together with the Latin that I was also studying) was an asset, as I found a second Romance language easy to pick up.

When I moved to Europe the first time for my study abroad term during my bachelor’s, and again later to begin my master’s studies, I took every opportunity I could to speak Spanish with native speakers. When it came time to choose where I would complete my master’s studies in translation, the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Translation of Interpreting seemed like the obvious choice, as they offered both French to English and Spanish to English translation studies. I spent the next two years completing the coursework for my Master of Arts in Translation, which looked at general, financial, and legal translation. I also completed a short translation internship at the United Nations Office at Geneva, for which it was necessary to have at least two UN source languages (for me, this was French and Spanish).

I have the qualifications necessary to offer Spanish to English certified translations, thanks to my Master of Arts in Translation for French and Spanish to English and my status as a Member of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters for the translation of French and Spanish into English.
