French to English

I provide French to English translation services to clients around the globe. As with document translations in general, my areas of specialization include general, legal, financial, business, and technical translation, but I accept translations on other topics as well. I also work with international organizations and offer certified translations from French into English.

French Background

French dictionary, useful for French to English translation

As mentioned under the About Me tab, I began studying French seriously in high school. After I graduated, I moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada to attend McGill University. At McGill I chose French Language and Literature – Language and Translation as one of my minors, which means that I took courses in French as a second language, French composition, advanced French grammar, and, finally, translation. These translation courses began with a class comparing translations from French into English and from English into French, and finally culminated in classes of English to French translation (as French to English translation classes were not offered at the time).

During these studies, I got the opportunity to practice my French with native speakers on a daily basis as I lived in the second largest French-speaking city in the world. I also went abroad for a term to the Sorbonne in Paris in my third year at McGill, taking all of my courses in French and experiencing a full immersion in the culture and language of France for half a year.

After I graduated from McGill, I moved to Geneva, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. I had passed an entrance exam for the University of Geneva’s English unit in the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, which meant that I would be studying translation from French and Spanish into English. I spent the next two years surrounded by French Swiss culture and completing the coursework for my Master of Arts in Translation, which looked in particular at general, financial, and legal translation. I also completed a short translation internship at the United Nations Office at Geneva, for which it was necessary to have at least two UN source languages (for me, this was French and Spanish).
