I am a freelance translator, originally from British Columbia, Canada and currently living in Germany. I’ve had the pleasure of moving to and living in different countries around the world, and of improving my language skills and cultural understanding along the way.

I started studying French seriously in high school, but my more in-depth, practical experience with languages began when I moved to Montreal to attend McGill University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction), majoring in Classics (i.e. Latin and Ancient Greek, together with history) and minoring both in French Language and Literature – Language and Translation and in Hispanic Languages. In my third year at McGill, I also spent a term abroad studying at the Sorbonne in Paris.

After my bachelor’s, I moved to Switzerland and obtained a Master of Arts in Translation (EN-FR-ES) from the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. My studies here centred on translating French and Spanish into English and covered general, legal, and financial translation. While I was in Geneva, I also had the opportunity to complete a short translation internship at the United Nations.

Once my studies were finished I moved to Cologne, Germany and spent three years teaching English and improving what was my beginner-level German. During this time, I also began doing freelance translation, editing, proofreading, and revision work.

My next move took me to Colchester in the United Kingdom, where I became a full-time freelance translator and editor and was accepted as an Affiliate of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting for translating French and Spanish into English (from 2015 until 2019). My client list began to grow and I had the opportunity to undertake business trips back to Geneva to work in-house with international organizations as well.

I later spent several years living Christchurch, New Zealand, where I became a Member of the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters for translating French and Spanish into English.

Today, I call Freiburg, Germany home. I have both practical and professional experience as a translator and editor, which is supported by a good understanding not only of French, Spanish, and German, but also of the finer rules of English and the differences between American, British, and Canadian English. My time spent down under has given me an insight into New Zealand and Australian English as well.
